Your guide to Green Thumb Farm: Frequently Asked Questions.
The best time to experience the farm is during our Saturday Farmgate Market (8 am – 12 pm). You can grab the freshest seasonal produce, enjoy a freshly brewed coffee, and wander through our Nursery to find edible seedlings for your own garden. If you have little ones, head over to the Little Green Thumbs area for nature-based play. Our volunteers are easy to spot in their green shirts—they are always happy to have a chat and suggest ways you can get involved!
Yes, well-behaved pooches are welcome! To protect our crops, seedlings, and local wildlife, dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times. Please be mindful of other visitors and ensure you pick up after your pet.
Currently, we are unable to accept public food waste. Our composting systems are carefully managed to meet specific regenerative standards and maintain soil health. If you are looking to start your own journey, our nursery team would love to chat with you about setting up a compost system or worm farm at home!
We are a not-for-profit educational community farm dedicated to demonstrating how sustainable farming heals the soil, boosts biodiversity, and builds climate resilience. We welcome people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to reconnect with the joy of growing and sharing food.

We are separate organizations that share this beautiful site. The Samford Community Hub (SCHub) manages the building hire and indoor facilities, while Green Thumb Farm manages the surrounding land, nursery, and all outdoor farm programs.
Because of our farm's boutique size, we can't grow every variety of produce sold at the market. We grow a portion of it right here, which you can identify by the "I’m Local" tags. Everything harvested on this land is grown using organic practices (non-certified), without any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. We view the farm as a living laboratory for exploration and education on regenerative farming.
For items not grown on-site, we source 100% Certified Organic produce from other Australian farmers, prioritizing local growers whenever seasonally available. These items are clearly identified by our "Certified Organic" tags.
The Green Thumb Farmgate Market is a community-driven space that supports small local producers, sustainable businesses, and organic farmers. We love to showcase vendors whose products align with our mission of sustainability, ethical production, and local craftsmanship. If you are a grower or maker interested in joining us, you can find more information and apply here: greenthumbfarm.org.au/farmgate-markets-vendor
Currently, our fresh harvest and market goods are only available during our Saturday Farmgate Market (8 am – 11 am). This ensures you get the freshest food possible while allowing our small team to focus on essential farming and maintenance during the week.
Instead of just "sustaining" the land, we aim to improve it. This means using practices that build topsoil, increase biodiversity, and cycle nutrients naturally without synthetic chemicals. We treat the farm as a total living ecosystem.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of GTF! We offer a structured volunteer program covering everything from hands-on weeding to helping out at the Saturday markets. You can find more information and apply here: greenthumbfarm.org.au/volunteer
