School Excursions Leader
Independent contractor role | Samford Valley, QLD

Green Thumb Farm is a community-focused educational farm and nursery dedicated to empowering people to grow food, compost waste, and reconnect with nature through hands-on learning. During weekdays, we welcome schools from across the region for excursions that engage Prep to Year 6 students in fun and educational activities focused on regenerative farming, composting, bees, soil, and growing edible gardens. The program is tailored to align with classroom learning, allowing students to apply key concepts in a real-farm setting.

We’re looking for a passionate and reliable educator to join us as an independent contractor at our farm in Samford Valley (2204 Mt Samson Rd) to lead excursions on Thursday and Friday mornings, as needed when schools are booked. All program materials and curriculum are provided, and students are accompanied by their teachers. Your role is to facilitate and guide the experience.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing the needs and learning goals of each visiting school and adjusting the experience accordingly.
  • Welcoming teachers and students, and leading the program with enthusiasm, empathy, and clear guidance.
  • Gathering feedback from teachers at the end of each session and following up as needed.

 

We’re looking for someone who:
  • Is passionate about gardening, sustainability, and working with children.
  • Has experience in leading learning experiences and engaging groups with energy and care.
  • Has knowledge of permaculture, composting, and growing food.
  • Communicates effectively with children, educators, and colleagues.
  • Is adaptable, empathetic, and resourceful.
  • Holds a valid Blue Card (Working with Children Check).
  • Holds a current First Aid certificate.
Experience in education and a Permaculture Design Certificate are highly desirable.
