Commitment to Child Safety & Wellbeing

At Green Thumb Farm, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a core priority in everything we do.

As a community-focused educational farm, we are committed to creating environments where children feel safe, respected, included and supported to learn, participate and connect with nature.

Green Thumb Farm has zero tolerance for child abuse, harm, bullying, discrimination or exploitation.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • maintaining child-safe environments across all programs and activities
  • meeting our obligations under Queensland child protection and Blue Card legislation
  • supporting the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
  • implementing clear policies and procedures that promote child safety and wellbeing
  • fostering a culture of inclusion, respect and accountability

Blue Card & Volunteer Screening

All members of our education team hold current Queensland Blue Cards.

In addition, Green Thumb Farm has voluntarily implemented Blue Card screening for all adult volunteers involved in our programs and activities, even where legislation may not specifically require it. We believe this strengthens child safety across our community environment.

Inclusion & Cultural Safety

We are committed to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for all children and families, including:

  • children with disability
  • neurodivergent children
  • children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families

We believe safe environments are inclusive environments, where all children feel respected, supported and able to participate fully.

Shared Responsibility

Child safety is a shared responsibility between staff, volunteers, families and the wider community.

We encourage anyone with concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child at Green Thumb Farm to speak up so concerns can be responded to appropriately and respectfully.
